Matrimony
Congratulations!
The priest and the people of St. Joseph rejoice with you at the announcement of your engagement, and we will walk with you in the weeks and months ahead as you approach one of the most important days in your life: the beginning of the sacred covenant of Christian marriage.
Matrimony Within the Church
“The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1601)
Matrimonial Planning
Engaged couples planning to be married at St. Joseph should contact with Fr. Brian Barker ([email protected] or call 618-993-3194 #3 at least six-eight months before they plan to marry.
Definite plans for a wedding date should not be decided until such contact has been made and the couples’ readiness for a sacramental marriage has been determined.
Preparation for marriage involves the couple completing the Pre Cana class. These classes occur several times throughout the year in different parishes.

Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
The man said, "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman,
' for she was taken out of man." For this reason a man will leave his father and mother
and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
Genesis 2:22-24
