Holy Orders
Vocations
Holy Orders are special roles within the church and comprise the three orders of bishop, priest and deacon, and the sacrament or rite by which candidates are ordained to those orders. “The sacrament of Holy Orders is conferred by the laying on of hands followed by a solemn prayer of consecration asking God to grant the ordained the graces of the Holy Spirit required for his ministry. Ordination imprints an indelible sacramental character.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1597)
Priesthood is a life-choice further strengthened through programs of education and formation provided by our archdiocese of service and leadership within the Church.
Vowed Religious Life in the tradition of our faith, adult men and women continue to choose to serve others as brothers and sisters living in community. Their life-styles are shaped by the Gospel values of poverty, obedience, and chastity, serving the Church and the world in a variety of ways. As a parish we provide information and encouragement concerning the vowed religious life and offer support for those who are seeking to make such a commitment.

Prayer for Vocations
Gracious God,
You have called me to life
and gifted me in many ways.
Through Baptism You have sent me
to continue the mission of Jesus
by sharing my love with others.
Strengthen me to respond to
Your call each day.
Help me to become all You desire of me.
Inspire me to make a difference in
others' lives.
Lead me to choose the way of life
You have planned for me.
Open the hearts of all to listen
to Your call.
Fill all with Your Holy Spirit that
we may have listening hearts and
the courage to respond to You.
Enkindle in my heart
and the hearts of others the desire
to make the world a better place
by serving as
Lay Minister, Sister, Priest,
Brother or Deacon.
Amen.
