Diocese of Belleville
Created in 1887 by Pope Leo XIII, The Roman Catholic Diocese of Belleville is an ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in the southern Illinois region. It is comprised of 28 southern counties of the state of Illinois and is administered from the City of Belleville. There are 124 parishes within the diocese. The See City for the diocese is Belleville. It is a suffragan see of the Archdiocese of Chicago. The cathedral parish for the diocese is the Cathedral of Saint Peter. Our current bishop is His Excellency, The Most Reverend Michael McGovern. St. Joseph and St. Paul Churches are part of the Belleville Diocese.
