Confirmation
What is Confirmation?
Confirmation is the reception of the sacrament which is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1285)
It is called Confirmation because it confirms and strengthens baptismal grace. Through this sacrament, the grace given in baptism is deepened.
Youth Confirmation
Confirmation for Youth Confirmation for youth generally takes place during 8th Grade. In order to be confirmed an individual must participate in the religious education program for at least one year prior to the year in which he or she will be confirmed.
If an individual is beyond 8th Grade and has not received the sacrament, he or she should contact the parish office at 618/993-3194 to make proper arrangements. The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated as a parish usually sometime shortly after Easter.
Confirmation for Adults
Confirmation for Adults Occasionally, for various reasons, an individual has not been confirmed while in his/her childhood or youth. Adults who are not yet confirmed are invited to call the parish office at 618/993-3194 to make arrangements to celebrate this sacrament.

The people of Samaria were baptized in Christ, but did not receive the fullness of the Spirit until they were confirmed by the elders. Confirmation is a sacrament that Jesus Christ instituted within His Catholic Church to further strengthen those who have reached adulthood.
