St Joseph/ St Paul Pastoral Council Minutes
- In Attendance: Matt Leitzen-president, Tim Kirschbaum-vice president, Monica Jones, Debra Bertrand, Ron DaRosa, Fr. Brian Barker, Rosemary Gribble, Deacon Ken Hilliard, Tim Kee, Angela Lees, Andrea McNeill, Cindy Pulsford, Cindy Yong, and Patti Zanotti. Absent: David Haas and Lon Richard.mc
- Approval of Minutes: A motion was made to approve the minutes as written by Andrea McNeill and seconded by Rosemary Gribble
- Old Business
- Update on Glenmary Missioner: Carl Sternberg, Tony Yong, and Tim Kirschbaum traveled to Blakely, Ga. They delivered 43 bookbags and they were greatly appreciated. A cash donation was given and used to purchase Christmas gifts and then were distributed. They made a visit to the gymnasium and spoke of nts repairs that would be needed. A discussion was made about the possibility of purchasing a new building in hopes of moving the after school program to the building. The trip was a wonderful endeavor with hopes that Br. Jason will be able to visit in the summer.
- New Business
- Election of new officers/ members: Three new members need to be elected for the Pastoral Council (two from St Joseph and one from St Paul). Nominations will be held for two weeks, biographies of candidates will be put in the bulletin for two weeks, and voting will occur the following week. Debra Bertrand, Monica Jones, and Matt Leitzen will stay on the council until March, 2019 so new members can elected and installed.. A motion was made by Ron DaRosa to defer the elections of new officers of the council until the new members are installed and it was seconded by Debra Bertrand.
- Future of priests in Southern Illinois: A discussion was held about the future of new priests to the Southern Illinois area. Bishop Braxton wants to bring African priests to the area.
- Oktoberfest meeting: A meeting will be held this week to see if there is still any interest in the festival and of hosting the fundrasier, and if so, possibly starting on smaller scale. There could be a possible tie-in with the 4th of July with the Knights of Columbus.
- 1st Reconciliation: 1st Reconciliation will be held on Jan 23, 2019
- Youth Trivia Night: Youth Trivia Night will be Feb 23, 2019. Grades 6-12 will be hosting the event. Doors open at 6PM.
- Ribs for Superbowl Sunday: Ribs can still be ordered.
- Anniversary Dinner: The deadline for the anniversary dinner is Jan 25, 2019
- Annulment Process meeting: The meeting is scheduled for Jan 24, 2019
- Safety Stripe: A safety stripe will be added to the Day Chapel for safety.
- Friday Mass at St Paul: After 6PM Mass at St Paul, fellowship, pizza, soda, beer, and wine will be provided by Mike and the Knights of Columbus to honor the patronage of St Paul.
- Pastor’s Comments
- A transitional Deacon will be here for the spring and summer and will be living in the Rectory. The deacon will be serving St Joseph, St Paul, and OLMC.
- The Teaching mass for St Paul will be moved to the following week due to inclement weather.
- Continue to work on the results of the listening session
- The index cards of parishioners who may need engaging has been collected, and a list has been compiled, so phone calls can be made.
