  1. Old Business
    1. St Joseph- KC Oktoberfest- The Oktoberfest has been postponed until next year. The reason for the postponement of the event was due to time concerns to plan the Oktoberfest.
    2. Update on Glenmary Missioner Project- Brother Jason came to visit St. Joseph and St. Paul Parish Communities during the week of July 26-30. The visit was a success. Between both parishes, $1,061 was raised for his projects. We also loaned him materials from previous bible studies that were done at St. Joseph and he will use them for his prison ministry.  Also discussed during his visit was the possibility of an angel tree project. Since then, Br. Jason has been in contact with the Ad Hoc Committee to let them know that something like collecting backpacks, school supplies, hygiene products, socks, underwear, gifts cards, etc for Christmas, would be a more worthwhile endeavor. By the New Year, the children are in need of all these items again. The committee met and discussed all of these things and has decided to move forward with a “Backpack Santa Project.” This will be a project that will include both communities and it will probably take place during October. Conversation has taken place that perhaps these Backpacks can be taken in the fall to Br. Jason. Discussion on the possibilities of a Mission Trip to Blakely between June 16-23 would involve adults and youth. Youth would work on VBS during June 17-22 and adults would work on renovations of their community gymnasium project. Brother Jason has fifteen kids in the after school program and he has room for nine more. We are also thinking of doing a childrens collection during weekend Masses hope to keep the Glenmary mission in our thoughts during offertory.
  2.  New Business
    1. New Our Lady of Mt. Carmel school representative: Juanita Gonzalez-Diaz- Juanita Diaz is the new OLMC school representative. She and her family attend St Joseph and she also have two children who attend OLMC. She plans to visit the pastoral council quarterly with news and updates. She reports that OLMC has had a great start to the school year.
    2. Joint Parish Picnic- The parish picnic is planned for September 9, 2018 at the Marion KC Hall. The picnic begins at noon. Parishioners are asked to bring side dishes. Music will be provided by John Stoecklin this year. Our main attraction this year will be Camp Ondessonk. They will set up Archery Ranges and their Handicrafts for young and old to enjoy.  Other activities include Inflatable Super Obstacle Course, a Kiddy Bounce House, Chicken Bingo.  Various organization have been asked for donations for the picnic. Last year, the picnic was free of cost. The picnic is a wonderful opportunity for fellowship and community. Registration for Youth Faith formation will be at the picnic.

  1. Faith Formation Reports
    1. Update on Past Events:
Steubenville Conference- July 13-15. The youth had a Spirit-filled weekend. It was a powerful experience to be in a stadium with 5,000 other Catholics. When asked what their favorite part of the weekend was, many felt moved during Eucharistic Adoration. Be sure to talk to those who went to get a personal testimony for the weekend. They definitely want to return in the summer of 2019.
St Joseph Summer Cinema- We provided the movie projected on the wall of the          gymnasium and popcorn. The families brought chairs and snacks. June 29- Paul, Apostle of Christ- about ten in attendance. July 27- Wonder- about twenty-five in attendance. Movie nights will be planned again.
VBS- Luke the Evangelist- July 22- July 26- We had approximately thirty-seven youth to encounter Jesus through the Gospel of Luke in our week of VBS. With the work of twenty youth and twenty adults, the week was very successful.

  1. Pastor’s comments:
  • Fr Barker thanks everyone for the warm welcome.
  • Fr Barker wants to expand ownership of Liturgy Committee especially with the petitions, communion, and eucharistic ministers.
  • He understands the financial difficulties at St Joseph and is wanting to work towards solutions. Fr. Barker has noticed a lack of bequests to St Joseph for a past number of years.
  • In future Pastoral Council meetings, Fr. Barker want to spend a few minutes to share our faith by prayer, reflection, etc.
  • Fr. Barker shared his background, he is from Chicago, Il. He also holds a degree in Finance. Camp Ondessonk was what brought him into the diocese and in 1994, he was ordained.
